CERG Description

The goal of the Civic Engagement Research Group (CERG) is to provide an evidence base that informs the design of policies and programs that promote the development of citizens for an effective, just, and humane democratic society.

Supports for Civic Media
  • The Supports for Youth Civic Media Engagement: An Examination of Equity & Impact study will draw on the Youth and Participatory Politics nationally representative survey of youth in order to analyze the distribution of learning opportunities for civic media literacy, the impact of these learning opportunities, and, in particular, the impact of these opportunities on whether youth create and circulate civic and political content. These data will enable us to carefully explore ways that in and out of school supports may foster more, high-quality, and equitable participation with civic media. This research will be paired with extensive dissemination efforts. The findings from this analysis will be shared with key youth organizations in the form of research reports and briefs, infographics, portraits and videos of best practice, podcasts, webinars, workshops, and presentations. Findings will also be shared with relevant research, policy, and funding communities. By connecting research to practice, we will aim to inform the field of participatory civic media, as well as the public more generally, about the supports needed to promote productive, equitable, and meaningful youth engagement with civic media.
